ABOUT

Anchor 1

Billie Jago is a DELTA qualified freelance ELT writer, teacher trainer and consultant who has been working in the ELT industry for over 12 years. She specialises in exams, digital and adult ELT materials.

She began her teaching career in 2012 in Italy, teaching young learners through project-based lessons.

She then moved to China, where she taught up to 70 students per class - over 1000 students per week - and gave whole-school talks to an audience of over 8000 students.

Billie then moved to Spain and began teaching 1:1 and small group classes, specialising in preparing students for their Cambridge and IELTS exams.

In 2016 she moved back to the UK to teach in Cambridge, where she was consistently rated in the top 3 teachers in the UK and Ireland for the largest private educational company in the world. She then began leading teacher training courses for teachers from international backgrounds.

Since then, she has gained extensive experience in both print and digital materials; with a particular focus on app development. She has written ELT materials for various publishers including Pearson Education, National Geographic, Cambridge Assessment and the British Council, and educational organisations EF and Wall Street English. She has written for well-known titles such as Gold Experience (Pearson), Roadmap (Pearson), Close-Up (National Geographic Learning) and Voices (National Geographic Learning).

As a subject matter expert (SME) in digital ELT, Billie has vast experience in working with various online authoring platforms, including Learnosity and Avallain. She is currently writing assessments for the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and digital assessments for a new edition of a well-known National Geographic Learning coursebook.

Alongside her writing, Billie also delivers regular teacher training sessions, plenary talks and workshops around the globe, most recently in Peru, Serbia, Montenegro and Croatia. She also consults on new coursebook concepts and reviews written materials.

In 2021, she founded the ELTcpd podcast, delivering professional development sessions to ELT professionals.
